The city of Akron plans to unveil a machine that will drill a tunnel through downtown in what will be the largest construction project in the city`s history. The Plain Dealer reports (http://bit.ly/1Txx7XA ) the device will be shown to the public next Tuesday. Akron residents will be given the chance to come up with a name for the machine. It will carve out a 27-foot wide, 6,000 foot long tunnel that will stretch between the Ohio and Erie Canal Towpath and Exchange street and hold sewer overflows during heavy rains. The $300 million tunnel is the largest single part of a $1.4 billion project mandated by U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to stop the city`s sewers from overflowing into the Cuyahoga river.
