It seems Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) has been inspired by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). Following DMRC`s example, GCDA has started preparing documents for floating tenders as it awaits administrative sanctions from the state for construction activities.

Generally, most government departments and agencies would start tender procedures only after getting government approval.

"This is a time-consuming process and creates unnecessary delay. GCDA wants to stick to its deadlines and complete projects as per schedule. Kitco would submit the final design of the underground exhibition centre at Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium on May 25. We would be able to award tenders once government gives administrative sanction," said GCDA chairman N Venugopal.

"Meanwhile, we are also involved in discussions with five banks to procure loans for the project. GCDA will choose a bank that offers minimum interest rate and better service," he said. The foundation stone of the Rs 96-crore project is expected to be laid in June.

The chairman added that civil works of the proposed open gymnasium at the stadium would begin next week and GCDA hopes to open the facility in June.

Venugopal also said the government has provided sanction for the laser light show project at Rajendra Maidan. GCDA would soon invite expression of interest for the helium balloon project at Marine Drive and their aim to finish the project by Onam. GCDA is also involved in the process of converting two floors of the office building to solar energy within the next 30 days.

"With this, about 50% of our energy requirement will be met through alternate source," said GCDA chairman.
