Mitsubishi Power to Co-Develop Battery Storage Projects in Ireland

The four BESS projects in Ireland will use Emerald storage solutions and have a total capacity of 185.5MW or 371MWh. Japanese power company Mitsubishi Power is to develop four battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in Ireland in partnership with renewable energy developer ION Renewables.
Ion Renewables entered an exclusivity agreement with Mitsubishi Power Americas for the four projects, which will use Mitsubishi’s Emerald storage solutions and have 185.5MW or 371MWh of total capacity.
The BESS projects will be developed at brownfield sites with existing electrical interconnects. They are expected to offer Secure, Sustainable Electricity System (DS3) energy storage and system services such as frequency and capacity response to the national grid. Mitsubishi Power has also signed a ten-year service agreement for the projects.
