Mumbai: The Bombay high court has floated tenders to digitise over 29 crore records of the HC and its benches at Nagpur and Aurangabad. According to the registrar general, the initiative is part of the e-court project of the central government and as per the report by the law and judiciary department digitisation of records of Bombay high court is on the top priority list. As per the tender document, over 29 crore records of the Bombay high court and its benches at Nagpur and Aurangabad are to be digitised.

The HC will also provide space to the winning bidder in the court premises at all three locations. Mangesh Patil, registrar general of the Bombay HC said, “The digitisation process is part of the e-court project of the law and judiciary department. As per the report of the department, digitisation of records of Bombay high court is on top priority. Due to the sensitive nature of the work the winning bidder will have to install their equipment within the court premises itself.”

A source from the HC said that the vendor would be allowed to use Dspace, an open-end software for digitising all records. “Any other software prepared by them for carrying out digitisation will become the property of the court and the vendor will have no proprietary rights on it. “The bidders are expected to have an annual turnover of `10 crore and experience of handling 50 lakh documents annually. It is a long-term project and the winning bidder will have to complete the work in six years. The average digitisation of records will be 50,000 pages per day,” said the source.

Some of the bidders that have shown interest in taking up the task include TCS, HP, Newgen Software, Innowave IT and RV Solutions among others. Due to some queries raised by the bidders, the HC has extended the date for submission of proposal to February 1, 2017. The original deadline was January 4, 2017.
