Railway doubling project to begin by Feb-end

[Date: 18 Jan 2017 ] Country : India

Indore: Doubling of Indore-Dewas-Ujjain track is expected to begin by the end of February. The Railways has already completed the final location survey and is now looking for tenders. The doubling work of this 79-kilometre section connecting Indore-Dewas-Ujjain is considered to be among the most important projects of the railways. As many as 40 trains cross through this section.

The total cost of this project is estimated to be around Rs 460 crore. The project will be carried out in phases. The first will include Indore-Dewas section, while the second will include Dewas-Ujjain section.

Officials of Ratlam Division of Western Railways said that with this doubling, the railways would be able to control delays and tracks would be cleared for new trains. The doubling of lines between Indore-Dewas-Ujjain would ensure trains reach destinations on time and would also allow railways to introduce new trains.

"Trains that had to wait for more than two hours at the crossing at Ujjain station will soon be able to cover the distance from Ujjain to Indore within one hour," said a senior PR official. He added that at present, trains have to wait for other trains to pass as there is only a single line.
