Ghaziabad: Civic infrastructure projects worth around Rs 100 crore will be undertaken by the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation (GMC) as part of a large-scale development programme for the city. The civic body has begun finalising the tenders and issuing work orders from Monday.
The infrastructure works include construction of roads and drains, as well as tiling of roadsides, across the five municipal zones of Ghaziabad — Vasundhara, Mohan Nagar, Kavi Nagar, City and Vijay Nagar.
The projects will involve an expenditure of Rs 70 crore from the fund of the GMC`s board, and about Rs 30 crore, allotted from the city`s Infrastructure Development Fund. In the last two months, 584 tenders have been floated by the GMC, and proposals have been received from various contractors.
"Work orders for all projects being funded by the GMC have been finalised and construction on some of them has already begun," Ghaziabad mayor Ashu Verma said.
GMC officials told TOI that each work order was being given a three-month time frame for completion from the date of issue and most projects are expected to be completed by March next year.
