Eyeing the coming Assembly polls, the State Cabinet on Saturday gave its approval to invite tenders for 13 packages for solid waste management in Bangalore South and Bangalore West.

The ruling BJP that had come under fire recently for its failure to manage the garbage crisis in the city, had divided the solid waste management into packages for the effective cleaning of the city.

Speaking to reporters after the Cabinet meeting on Saturday, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister S Suresh Kumar said that of a total of 89 packages, tenders for 76 had been finalised and those of 13 were pending.

While five packages are for Bangalore South, eight are for Bangalore West. The cabinet has given its nod to call tenders for those 13 packages, he said.

Mutts to Get Land< br/> After receiving liberal grants in the budget, mutts will now get land. The Cabinet decided to lease or donate 35 acres of government land to mutts and other organisations in Bangalore, Nelamangala, Ramanagaram, Haveri, Belgaum, Davangere and Udupi.

The Cabinet has also given its approval to open two new engineering colleges in Mangalore and Koppal.
